Parents and students of Castle Montessori Schools opened their hearts and wallets to help provide a wonderful Christmas for many local children and at the same time reinforced valuable lessons learned at school.
Through the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree drive, the Castle Montessori family of schools was able to “adopt” more than 90 families and raise over $7,500 worth of gifts this year.
Castle Montessori’s Founder and Head of School, Varsha Patel, said the generosity of the school’s parents came as no surprise to her. “I have to say, we are very blessed to have such wonderful people in our schools. There has never been a time in which we have asked for help and not had a large number of parents and even grandparents step up to get involved with our efforts,” Patel said.
Helping others is an important aspect of the grace and courtesy lessons children are taught each and every day at all Castle Montessori schools.
“One of the reasons I love the Castle Montessori curriculum so much is the fact that it teaches compassion to the children. When we took a paper angel from the tree, went shopping and returned with the gifts, it opened the door for so much discussion about how to care for others who need help. My child saw us living out lessons from school and our beliefs in a very tangible way and for that I am grateful,” a Castle Montessori mother who requested anonymity said.
Patel said it makes her feel proud to know so many unselfish people exist in the communities we serve. “I love the fact that these folks wanted to do their part to make certain no child goes without a toy and some warm clothing or new shoes”. Castle Montessori Schools also partnered with LISD’s Hebron Valley Elementary School this year to help with such a worthy cause. The families in each of our schools have given so generously to make this year’s Angel Tree drive a success,” Patel said.
